This blog is going to be a commentary on today's current media. It'll cover major motion pictures, music, books, and an other form of media that I come in contact with. It will be full of nothing but informed opinions, critiques, and suggestions.

This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, I'm back with another review. Sorry I've been neglecting you, but to be honest, I haven't really seen too much new media lately and therefore have nothing to write about. Well that was until recently...

I recently finished the book This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. This book was absolutely amazing. Never in all my life have I had spiritual warfare explained so clearly to me. Ok, now I'm gonna kinda setup the story for you.

The story is sent in the small town of Ashton. It's your typical small town; everybody knows everybody and everything about everybody. Now some new faces are introduced to the town of Ashton: Hank Busche and Marshall Hogan. Busche becomes pastor of the local small church, while Hogan becomes the new editor of the local newspaper. In the seemingly unrelated lives of these men, they begin to notice changes to this small town. More and more people are leaving and new people are replacing them. Strange things are happening in this small town. This is the main plot. Behind the scenes, however, the town's angelic guardians are noticing that the demonic activity in the town is beginning to increase. The Captain of the Hosts of Heaven, Tal, is sent to help fight this new evil descending upon the town. As the story progresses, both Busche and Hogan find themselves in the midst of a spiritual struggle for control being executed by mortal men.

This story was absolutely wonderful. It was cleverly crafted so as not to be a commentary on spiritual warfare, and yet to make clear the reality of this fight between God and Satan. There were so many twists and turns that it thoroughly kept my attention, even up until the last chapter. Though it is a work of fiction, it never loses you into a world of fantasy. Even as you make your way through the book, you begin to notice the subtly and reality of the war going on even in your own life.

I give this book 5 stars for being absolutely outstanding: *****! I know, in the last review I said I was using the Thumb System, but I changed it to stars...because I felt like it! But it will definitely be stars from now on.

I'm currently in the middle of reading three new books: The Atonement Child and The Last Sin Eater by Francine Rivers, and The Iliad by Homer. I'm also working on going to the movies to see Superman and Monster House, so I should have some more reviews for you soon!

Tink ;-)

Kwesi and I read this book the summer we lived in Louisiana. Absolutely fantastic! We both became certifiable Frank Peretti fans. I also read the sequel, Piercing the Darkness. I haven't been able to finish The Visitation, though I've started it no less than four times.

He's also Mr. Henry of the kids' story series. An immensely talented man with an intriguing testimony.
